Please welcome Trisha.
A soul that has experienced sooo much. Living through a traumatic childhood and making every effort to provide the polar opposite experience for her own children. Giving all of the love and acceptance she never had. The ultimate rising above it all.
You might know me by my fabulous blue hair, symbolic tattoos, or my genuine smile. I have a natural maternal instinct. Some might even say I’m funny. But many have shared that they feel safe with me and that is the best compliment I could ever receive.
I didn’t always feel this amazing. I spent much of my life not liking myself, neither inside nor out. It wasn’t until my mid-30s that I began to figure life out, but let me tell you, it’s been a crazy journey.
I grew up in Utah in a Mormon community, and life was hard, really fucking hard. I never received the love and support that children should receive. Instead, I was abused, my basic emotional needs as a child were neglected, and I damn well never felt safe. My behavior turned destructive, and I became desperate to find consolation wherever I could. This quote sums it up for me: “when you are not fed love on a silver spoon, you learn to lick it off of knives”. ~Lauren Eden
By my late 30s this all began to change for me, like a perfect storm, I was forced to look at all of my pain and the bad things in my life. Looking back, I can see that I was hiding behind my never fading smile, and as a mom I was able to avoid my emotions and my past. After much personal work and processing, I morphed into a different person, and I really liked this person. I am now 1000% confident in who I am today. I am no longer looking and longing for that love I never received as a child because I love myself and I am enough, I always was enough.
I also learned that my purpose and destiny is to be a mom. To have a close, beautiful connection with my two children and to show them the love and support that I never received growing up. If I could go back to my younger self, I would tell her “it’s going to be okay, it may be really fucking hard, but you are going to be awesome!” And I was and am determined to give my children a much better upbringing than I had.
I also have a newfound relationship with women, something I never had growing up. These strong bonds have become so valuable to me. As a recovering ex-Mormon, in a community where women were competitive, non-supportive and even toxic, I am changing that in my life by lifting and supporting other women. My wish is, that other women love themselves inside and out, know their worth, and see their own beauty.
The 40 Women Over 40 project did just that for me. It had such a powerful and meaningful impact that I want other women to experience the same. I want to say, “Shine girl, fucking shine, you are a goddess!” because this is how I felt being a part of this project, it’s almost as if it was the closure I needed from my traumatic childhood and past.
And although I may not be able to convince other women to step in front of a camera lens, I can tell them “You look beautiful today, you are glowing!” because it puts a smile on their faces which fills my heart.
Today, you’ll find me harnessing some healing through my crystal collection, nerding out to Star Wars and Harry Potter with my kids or reveling in my empowering photos from my new modeling career. I am also an assistant to a professional photographer, learning all about the magic one can create through the lens of a camera. I hope to follow in the footsteps of Shawnalee who brings incredible experiences and amazing gifts to so many.
In the meantime, I dream about travel and collecting memories and stories through the people I meet. I have Ireland, Scotland, and Iceland on my radar where I cannot wait to connect with all the magnificent humans who I will cross paths with.
I am enough.
I love myself.
I wear my scars like a badge of honor.
And I am beautiful.
Yours truly,
Trish Trujillo
